Tower Federal Credit Union Donates $70K to Local Food Banks

Tower Federal Credit Union, through its philanthropic arm, the TowerCares Foundation, recently donated $70,000 to local food banks to support families affected by the federal government shutdown. The funds were distributed to the Anne Arundel, Capital Area, Howard County, and Maryland Food Banks ($15,000 each), as well as FISH of Laurel and the Fort Meade Spouses’ Club ($5,000 each).

The donation coincided with Employee Appreciation Week, highlighting the commitment of Tower’s team to both its members and the community. Rick Stafford, President of the TowerCares Foundation, noted:

“TowerCares Foundation is proud to continue its tradition of helping those in need, especially during times when families are facing hardship. Supporting local food banks ensures that neighbors have access to essential resources, even in challenging circumstances.”

Through the ‘Tower Gives Back’ program, full-time employees are encouraged to volunteer up to 16 hours per year at approved nonprofits. This program combines financial support with hands-on engagement, allowing employees to contribute directly to causes they care about.

Leah Paley, CEO of the Anne Arundel County Food Bank, emphasized the immediate impact:

“There are approximately 25,000 federal civilian workers living in Anne Arundel County. The loss of paychecks during the shutdown has created a crisis for many families. Partners like TowerCares Foundation make the difference between a family having meals on the table or going hungry.”

Elise Krikau, Chief Philanthropy Officer at the Maryland Food Bank, added:

“At this critical time, TowerCares’ generous gift will help the Maryland Food Bank bridge the gap and provide nutritious meals to neighbors across the state. We are profoundly grateful for your partnership and care for our community.”

By combining strategic philanthropy with employee engagement, Tower Federal Credit Union demonstrates how organizations can make meaningful contributions to the community, inspiring others to support local initiatives, particularly during challenging times.
